A BIT OF PROGRESS
Wednesday, 4th July. Still going every evening, when Janet is usually quite tired, but it still makes sense to stretch out the visiting, as other visitors tend to go in the afternoon.
Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy
She was assessed on Monday morning and the results from that are awaited. Her physio started on Monday afternoon and she was able to stand and take three steps. Progress, but no sign of the physio yesterday!
Alex and Debbie arrived Monday evening and stayed until this morning. They visited in the afternoons and this morning, so I didn't see too much of them. They ate out both nights, partly because I was away in Kirkcaldy and also I didn't have a lot of food in the house.
I started washing clothes on Monday and Tuesday - got the hang of the washing machine okay and today I started ironing. This job I find tricky and will not be able to meet Janet's exacting standards. ;-)
I phoned Janet's friend in Aldershot, Caroline Riddell, as she was to meet up with Caroline in a couple of weeks when we were down south. Caroline was very shocked and I broke down a couple of times when I was telling her about Janet's condition.
Janet has just phoned to say that she has been accepted for a bed down at the BGH. This is good news! The bed will either be in the medical ward or the specialist Stroke Unit there, whichever comes up first.
Borders General Hospital, near Melrose
Popped into the shop, Tiger Lily, where Janet's friend, Maria, works. I told Maria what had happened but again broke down in tears trying to tell her. This seems to happen whenever I tell someone the news for the first time. Maria's husband had a severe stroke some years ago but is now fully fit and back to work, so that's a good story to remember.
In the evening visit, Janet tells me two pieces of good news. Firstly she managed to walk about 20 yards, aided by the physio obviously, which was fantastic and secondly, she is to be moved to the BGH this coming Friday, only two days away. Janet is looking forward to the move and it also means my travelling is halved.
Neil and Ruth are travelling up tomorrow and are to visit Janet tomorrow evening, stay overnight in Kirkcaldy and then visit again on Friday. Again, to stretch out the visiting, I will visit her tomorrow morning (she receives her physio treatment in the afternoons).
