ANOTHER WEEK PASSES AND SOME HOPEFUL SIGNS

Sunday, 15th July. Janet was assessed by the Occupational Therapist on Monday past and whilst doing so, she mentioned that her right calf had been, and was, sore. A doctor was called to have a look and Janet was taken immediately for a scan, where it was discovered she had a blood clot. After a bit of discussion between the various professionals, it was decided the best course of action was to disperse the clot by either a drip (which would mean Janet having a cannula in her arm) or a course of daily injections in her stomach. Janet chose the latter option and these injections will continue for 4-6 weeks. She also had a chat with the doctor who was very positive about things and even gave Janet a date when she could conceivably get home - 24th July! Just two weeks away which I think unlikely but perhaps the doctor was giving her a date to aim at and to put Janet in a more positive frame of mind.

Because of this, her physio was delayed by a few days, although she was receiving treatment on her right arm. Her son, Alex, visited Monday afternoon and took his mum outside in a wheelchair, in the hospital grounds - the first fresh air she had had in almost 2 weeks. I wasn't even aware that she was allowed in a wheelchair.

On Monday evening, I took Maria, Janet's friend who works in the Tiger Lily shop in Peebles High Street, through to see her and she enjoyed that. My sister and her husband visited on Wednesday afternoon and our neighbours Jim and Frances visited on Thursday afternoon.

From my visit on Wednesday evening, Janet seemed a bit cheerier and more upbeat and she is looking forward to the physio starting properly.

Janet's son Neil and two of his three daughters, Meghan and Charlotte, drove up on Thursday afternoon and they saw Janet on Thursday evening, giving me my first "day off". They stayed Thursday night with me in Peebles and left Friday morning to visit again before returning south.

I visited Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and on the latter occasion I took Janet out in a wheelchair for a short walk around the hospital. She did not appreciate my erratic pushing of the wheelchair!

She was quite despondent on these two visits and thinks that she will not get better and have to come home just as she is now. I think these thoughts and moods will pass and particularly when she gets a full week's physio this coming week.
