PROGRESSING VERY NICELY, THANK YOU

Thursday morning, 27th September.

Another two weeks gone by. On Wednesday, 12th, as last mentioned, Janet did indeed have lunch in Edinburgh with her family and I played golf at Bruntsfield, with two old friends and ex-colleagues. And here are the photographs to prove it!

Back home, Janet was, and is, doing her daily physio exercises and both the O.T. and physiotherapist continue to be so pleased with her progress. She visited her doctor last week and again, very positive comments with the doctor saying to Janet that by this time next year, she will be back to her normal self.

Janet has only slipped once back to her black moods and that was 10 days ago. She woke up in the middle of the night feeling very depressed and went to the spare room to sleep until morning. By then, the mood had passed and she was OK again. This has been the only time in the last fortnight that she has been so down and that in itself is a distinct improvement.

I don't think I have mentioned this before, but the swelling in Janet's right leg and foot has dramatically reduced, so much so that she can now wear her usual size 4 shoes - trainers that is, not her high heels! When she was in hospital, the doctors had said that they didn't know how long it would take for the swelling to go down, but it could well be months. So the fact that Janet was now down to her usual shoe size was great news.

Whilst looking for shoes for her granddaughter Caitlin's 18th birthday party, she did try on shoes with a slightly raised heel and almost fell over. That made her realise that she can only currently wear flat shoes / trainers, so that is what she ended up buying. The party is this coming weekend and photographs will follow.

The trainers she has been wearing for the past two months or so, are very comfortable, but they are size 5, which was needed to accommodate the swelling in her right foot. As they are so comfortable, Janet has ordered insoles for them in the hope that she can carry on wearing them.

We asked the physio last week if Janet could climb the stairs on her own, meaning without me at the back of her. This was agreed but coming downstairs, I have to walk (backwards) in front of her and it may be a wee while yet before Janet has the confidence to come down a set of stairs on her own. She can however walk down half a dozen stairs without a stick, so very significant progress.

This past Monday, Janet went to Peebles Hydro to get a manicure and pedicure and afterwards we went to the Hydro's sister hotel, The Park, for lunch. All courtesy of my children's present to Janet for her 70th birthday at the end of last year.

Janet had her session with the O.T. yesterday and is making such good progress that she only needs to attend every fortnight from now on. She sees the physiotherapist this morning and tomorrow morning we drive down to Cheshire for the family celebration.
