IS THAT REALLY A MONTH GONE BY?

Wednesday evening, 14th November.

Is that really a month gone by, since my last post. Yes, it is. And where are we now, I hear you ask? Are you asking that? Well, if you are, I will tell you.

Janet is doing very well with her walking, going up and down stairs on her own and also getting into and out of the shower by herself. So many little steps that add up to a very significant improvement overall.

She visited the doctor on 16th October and some of her medication was reduced, or at least reduced over a period of weeks. She also had a session with the Physiotherapist that same day and on the following day, saw the Occupational Therapist. It was decided that Janet was doing so well that she did not need to see the O.T. again. Good news indeed.

The following Wednesday (the 24th) a lady called Sandy, from the Borders General Hospital Stroke Unit visited Janet at home. She stayed for over 2 hours, which was much longer than anticipated and Janet definitely felt the benefit of the visit and the chat.

We drove down to Bonchester Bridge to visit my sister on the Saturday. Good home cooking and a stabbing was all that we encountered on this brief trip to the Hawick area! The good home cooking was from my sister, the stabbing was my nephew, who had stabbed himself at work, come home and needed to go to A&E at Melrose, for stitching purposes. An eventful Saturday!

Janet's right arm by now was becoming very sore, from her shoulder right down to her hand. So she had another doctor's appointment on Halloween, but this only resulted in her medication being further cut back, which did not improve matters much at all.

We both had a flu jab last Thursday (the 8th) although I also had a pneumonia / meningitis injection, which I have to say was very sore and the ache lasted for three or four days. No, honestly!

So the pain in Janet's arm has continued and yesterday she saw the doctor, who has continued to cut back on her medication - and has also decided to give Janet a steroid injection, in her right shoulder, this very morning. And so it came to pass.

Injection given and hopefully this will alleviate Janet's pain. The injection did have an anesthetic when given, but that has worn off now and it may be up to a week before Janet feels the overall benefit. Hopefully this will work and it should improve the mobility of her arm / hand for a period of at least 6 weeks.

And that's it's all up to date, really. What now? Things to look forward to are - a lunch at the Golf Club this Friday and more particularly, Janet's sons and wives (one each 😜) coming up in a fortnight to celebrate her 21st (again!!) birthday. Probably oblivion thereafter!! Which is nice.
